Smoked Tail Lights

The term "smoked tail light" is used to describe the appearance of a tail light. A smoked tail light is basically tail light in which the lens is tinted to give it a smoky effect. It still retains the basic components, which include the use of light bulbs (brake lights, running lights and turn signal lights), reflectors (to enhance light beams), wiring (to function from controls) and the light lens (protection).

The term "smoked" used in the context of tail light refers to the blackish tint applied on the lens. Other colored tint shades would be termed by their color name (e.g. blue, red, pink or purple). The distinguishing factor that separates a smoked tail light from other tail lights is its color.

The smoked tail light lens (tail lamp bezel or tail light frame) is installed at the rear fender of a vehicle and can come in various shades. Different shades of smoke tail lights are done to give the automobile a more sporty, elegant or monochromatic effect (use of one shade of color).

  •      Smoked tail lights are usually installed as a custom item.
  •       They can come in a smoked tail light kit specified for a particular car model.
  •       An example is the Audi RS6 05 Smoked Tail Light Kit, which cost about $50 and is designed to take impact from stones of about one inch in diameter at a speed of 120MPH.
  •       Its features include resistance to cracking, shrinking and peeling.

Smoked tail lights are applied to automobiles to provide additional protection for the tail lights, and at the same time are used to give more style to the automobile's complete look. Smoked tail lights can be found on the Internet, and may come in different shapes, sizes, and prices and from different brands and for various car models.
